William (Bill) McLaughlin, 87, of Hartford passed away at his home Saturday, May 7, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in Detroit, to Russell and Paulette McLaughlin and graduated from Otsego High School in 1946. Bill married Nadine Gren on Feb. 7, 1948. She preceded him in death in 1997. They shared 49 years of marriage and owned and operated the Hartford Shoppers Guide for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
While in Hartford, Bill served on the city council for 16 years, and was mayor pro tem for 12 years. He had a passion for collecting and restoring antique cars and became a member of the Kalamazoo Antique Auto Restorers Club in 1969. Bill also loved to bowl and enjoyed playing euchre with his fellow seniors.
Survivors include his children: Mike of Fairport, N.Y., Linda (Ron) of Stevensville, Ron (Cindi) of Benton Harbor, and Patti of Paw Paw; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Jim (Leona) McLaughlin; sister, Colleen (Elmer) Young; brother-in-law, Terry Shackleton; many nieces; and nephews; and special friend, Valeria Kortokrax. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Otsego, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will immediately follow at St. Margaret's Cemetery.
