He is also survived by many other family members.
Virgil was born Aug. 7, 1925 in Hartford, the son of Hiram and Agnes (Darling) Smith, both of whom precede him in passing. Also preceding him in passing were a brother, Vern Smith; a sister, Mabel Ekstrom; a half-brother, Gordon Tuttle, Sr.; a great - niece, Erin Schaus; and a great - nephew, Steven Efting.
Virgil was formerly employed at the Watervliet Paper Mill and the U.S. Post Office in South Haven. He was also instrumental in starting the Dog n' Suds in Watervliet. He faithfully attended the Hartford Federated Church. In his spare time, you could catch him tending to his yard and traveling all over the world.
As per Virgil's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the American Cancer Society. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
