Velma Louise Cargo

Velma (Louise) Cargo, loving wife, mother and grandmother, was born in Searcy, Ark., on Sept. 16, 1933. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Benson) Cooper. Louise passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Life Care Center of Plainwell.

She is survived by two sons: George (MaryAnn) Cargo and Donald Cargo; a daughter, Patsy (Jerome) Buchanan; eight grandchildren: Michelle, Jessica, Jarrett, Alex, Makayla, Danelle, Matthew and Erica; and nine great-grandchildren.

On Jan. 6, 1956, Louise was united in marriage with George Cargo. George passed away on June 3, 1995. Also preceding her in passing were her parents; two brothers: Raymond and Buddy Cooper; and two sisters: Thelma (Van) Bess and Marie Lewis.

The family will welcome friends on Saturday, April 17, at the Calvin Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to noon, at which time a celebration of life service will be held by Pastor Lonnie Truelove who will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations in Louise’s name be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
