Vada Estella Langston

Vada Estella Langston, 91, formerly of Hartford passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at Maple Lake Assisted Living, Paw Paw.

Vada was born July 29, 1925, in Paragould, Ark., the daughter of Edward and Florabelle (Speer) Davidson, both of whom preceded her in passing. Also preceding her in passing were her husband, Andrew Langston on Nov. 8, 1991; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Vada retired in 1987, after 22 years of service, from Hartford Public Schools. She volunteered in her community, where she was on the board of the Hartford Public Library and an election certifier. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, walking, singing, dancing and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Vada is survived by a son, Michael (Donna) Langston of Hartford; a daughter, Janis (Rick) Stoddard of Holland, Mich.; three grandchildren: Ashlee, Stephanie and Mathew (Allie); a great-grandson, Karsen; a sister, Drucilla Davidson of Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor her memory will commence at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, with the Rev. Brian Hall of the Watervliet Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford Township.
