Thomas Russell Rhinehart was born Sept. 29, 1948, in Paw Paw, to Jack and Betty (Chappell) Rhinehart. Thomas passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, at home in Lawrence at age 76.
Tommy, as he was known, enlisted in the military after high school, serving his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He could be found at the Hartford Speedway on any Friday night. His love for racing led him to Eldora Speedway every year, with his son, AJ. He had many friends that will miss his random visits. He will be missed cruising the streets of Hartford.
Tommy leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Katrina (Gary) Johnson and their son, Garrod, of Hartford; two sons: AJ (Hannah) Rhinehart, and their children: Adian, Ally, Ace and Ax, of Ohio, and Jason (Krystin) Rhinehart and their children: Bryson, Brody and Bowen, of Hartford. Tommy is also survived by a sister, Robin (John) Berli of Benton Harbor; a brother, Randy Sias of Hartford; and many other family members and friends.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Jackie Caldwell and Lori Ghent; and a brother-in-law, Arlin Caldwell.
A special ‘thank you’ to his dear friends, Jimmy Kempf and Sandie Bryant, for always looking out for him.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a time of sharing your memories of Tommy, from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at the Van Buren Sportsmen’s Club. The Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford is assisting the family with arrangements. Instead of flowers any donations may be made to the family.
