Shirlene Luese Carmichael

Shirlene Luese Carmichael of Watervliet went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at the age of 80, in Portage, Mich. Shirlene was born Aug. 22, 1939, in Bangor, the daughter of Horace and Hilda (Shugars) Hindes, both of whom precede her in passing. Also preceding her in passing were a daughter, Anita Davis; and a sister, Buzz Duda.

Shirlene was formerly employed for 25 years at Watervliet Community Hospital, where she coordinated scheduling, discharge planning and social work, and then retired after another 10 years at Whirlpool Corporation in the customer service and safety division. Shirlene earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1997, and was licensed as a Social Service Technician through the State of Michigan Board of Social Work.

Shirlene loved the Lord and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. It was her joy and privilege to serve on the prayer chain at Hartford Bible Church for many years. Shirlene leaves behind to cherish her memory: two daughters, Rhonda Shine Wilbur and Karen (John) McClay; a son, Kenneth Casey Carmichael; a grandson, Dr. Beau (Erin) Shine; and a great-grandchild.

As per Shirlene’s wishes, a private family service was held at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford on Friday, June 12, with Pastor Benjamin Williamson officiating. Shirlene was laid to rest in Arlington Hill Cemetery in Bangor. Memorial donations in Shirlene’s name may be made to the Hartford Bible Church.
