Roger Thomas Applegate, 67, of Hartford passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at his daughter's home in Hartford.
"Gizzy," as he was known, was born Dec. 24, 1945, in Lucasville, Ohio, the son of Steve and Nettie (Smith) Applegate, both of whom preceded him in passing.
A graveside service to honor Roger's life took place at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford, with Pastor Shannon Truelove of the Full Gospel Assembly of Hartford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roger's name may be made to the family. The Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford is handling the arrangements. Roger formerly operated the Crystal Flash in Hartford. He was also employed at the Watervliet Paper Mill, Superior Steel in Benton Harbor and drove semi-trucks for a number of different companies.
Roger mostly loved the time he spent with his family, which consists of a son, James Applegate of Hartford; a daughter, Lisa (Marvin Smith) Riley of Hartford; and two granddaughters, Lyndsey Pruitt of Covert and Macie Pruitt of Hartford. Also surviving is a brother, Ed (Kathy) Smith of Palaski, Tenn.; half-sisters and brothers: Susie Brenda, Nettie Mae, Betty and Roy; and special friend, Carol.
