Robert Thomas Weesaw

Robert Thomas Weesaw, 73 of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Hartford, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016, at home.


Robert was born June 27, 1942, in Hartford, the son of Florian and Johanna (Alexis) Weesaw, both of whom precede him in passing. He was also preceded in passing by two brothers: Bernard and Van "Gibb" Weesaw and a sister, Linda Lou Weesaw.


Robert was a proud member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. After spending most of his youth in the Hartford area, he moved to Florida in his 40's. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing and working with his hands.


Robert is survived by two sons: Paul Shue of Plainwell and Matthew Steele of Texas; four daughters: Linda Lou Weesaw Thompson, Shelly Weesaw and Michelle (Travis) Henderson, all of Indiana and Kesis Starr Saboo of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Loraine Gideon of Hartford; a brother, Kevin Weesaw of Athens; six nieces and nephews and a grandnephew.


The family will welcome friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where there will be a water ceremony, led by Angie Francisco, Yebishawn Old Shield and Melissa Foerster, taking place during the viewing. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, Silver Creek Township.
