Robert Leroy Hall Jr. 80, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in South Haven.
Bob, as he was known, leaves his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Baiers) Hall; sons, Richard (Susan) Hall of Hartford and Tim (Teesa) Hall of Elkhart, Ind.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Bob was preceded in passing by his parents, Robert and Arlene (Frazier) Hall Sr.; and two brothers, William and George Hall.
Bob graduated from Dowagiac High School. He married Shirley on May 18, 1957. He was formerly employed at the Watervliet Paper Mill for over 30 Years. Dad loved building replica wood trucks, tractors and toys in his workshop. His workshop was called Grandpa Hall's Wooden Toy Shop. When he wasn't in his workshop he loved to work on his lawn at Daffodil Acres. Bob's other hobby was buying and rebuilding tractors and taking them to tractor shows and parades. Bob wrote and published several articles regarding locally built tractors in a nationally published magazine. Bob helped several friends locate and purchase tractors to restore. He was a member of: Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association Inc. in Portland, Ind., Hartford Old Engine & Tractor Show, Hartford, and Michigan Flywheelers Museum, South Haven. Bob and Shirley were Hartford 2006 Citizens of the Year. Bob and Shirley were past chairmen of the Hartford Christmas parade for several years. Bob loved parades. They were members of Hartford Friends of the Library. Bob was a volunteer for the Hartford Loan Closet. All the neighborhood kids got plenty of tractor rides from dad.
The family will welcome friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Hartford United Methodist Church, 425 E. Main St., Hartford, where the service to honor his memory will follow. Pastor Ryan Wenburg will officiate. Robert will be laid to rest in Keeler Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations in Robert's name be made to Hartford United Methodist Church.
