Robert E. Buss was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Arlington Township. He was one of three children born to John and Mildred (Jacobs) Buss. Robert passed away suddenly at home on Friday, March 17, 2017.
Robert served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was formerly employed by a house trailer manufacturing company in Kalamazoo and at Lee Coach. He was also involved in farming. In his spare time, he liked to hunt, fish, have yard sales, go to Shipshewana and Reit's flea market and especially go to senior citizens social events in Paw Paw, Decatur and Hartford.
The family will welcome friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford, followed by a celebration of life service to honor Robert’s memory. The Rev. Glen Cowles of East Arlington Baptist Church will officiate. Robert will be laid to rest in Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, with military rites conducted by Hess Eastman Post 174. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Arlington Baptist Church or to the Hess Eastman Post 174 of Lawrence. Robert is survived by his brother, Richard (Maxine) Buss of Decatur; a niece, Sharon (Scott) Jennings of Margate, Fla.; four nephews: Melvin (Nancy) Wharton and Gordon (Dawn) Wharton all of Paw Paw, David (Suzanne) Buss of Decatur and Mark (Annette) Buss of Kalamazoo; along with numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in passing by his parents; a sister, Dorine Wharton; and a brother-in-law, Gene Wharton.
