Richard Frederick Simon, 73 of Lawrence, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Bronson Lakeview Hospital, Paw Paw.
Dick, as he was known, was born on January 1, 1939 in Lawrence, the son of Rudolph and Isabelle (Portschy) Simon, both of whom preceded him in passing. He was also preceded in passing by a sister: Margie Helms and a brother: Rudy Simon.
From birth, Dick was a loyal, lifelong resident of Lawrence, where he was a graduate from Lawrence High School. He retired from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo after 17 years of loyal employment. He was also employed at numerous roofing companies around the area and also owned his own lime spreading business. He was also a good standing member of the Rising Sun Lodge 119 F&AM of Lawrence.
Dick is survived by three children: Valerie (Scott) McKinley of Lawrence, Jon (Sharon) Simon of Yorkville, Ill. and Kimberly (Mark) Garland of Lawton, ten grandchildren: Richard, Nikki and Taylor Simon, Amanda, John and Paul Jr. Zoodsma, Heather, Michelle, Austin and Randy Garland, three great grandchildren and another on the way. He was also survived by a sister: Linda (Dick) Shepard of Fishers, Ind. and a brother: James (Beverly) Marks of Jonesville.
As to Dick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will welcome friends from 10 to 11 A.M.; Saturday, December 22 at the Lawrence United Methodist Church, where the memorial service to honor his memory will commence at 11 A.M with Pastor Cliff Radtke officiating. Masonic Rites will also be performed by Rising Sun Lodge 119 F&AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Dick’s name be made to the church. The family has entrusted the Leonard Funeral Home, Lawrence, with handling the arrangements.
