Richard Corliss Bouma (Corky), 84, of Watervliet, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home.
Richard was born June 3, 1929 in Watervliet, to Dowey and Helen (Rooker) Bouma, both of whom precede him in passing.
Richard owned and operated the Watervliet Gulf Station for a number of years and retired from Wesco of Watervliet. He also served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Richard married the former Madonna Ritter on April 24, 1964 and she survives, along with three sons; Richard Bouma and James (Sue) Bouma, both of Watervliet and Royln Mock of Fort Wayne, Ind., four grandchildren: Erica (Scott) Nearpass of Coloma, Beth (Frank) Lazzara of McMinnville, Tenn., James (Crystal) Bouma, II of Buchanan and Mike (Chandra) Holt of Coloma. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, a sister: Helen of Benton Harbor, a brother: Willis Bouma of Watervliet and numerous other family members and friends.
As to Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration of life service will take place on October 5th at 11 A.M. at the Keeler General Baptist Church, with Pastor Efrain Maya officiating. Military rites will be performed by Willis Bouma. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with handling the arrangements.
