Phil Meachum, 55, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
Phil was born in Manhattan, N.Y. to Theresa and William (Willie) Meachum. He grew up in Bayside, N.Y., before moving to Michigan at the age of 15. Phil drove tractor trailers both locally and cross-country for over thirty years. During this time, Phil also became involved in truck showmanship, and once won 3rd place in a truck expo competition for Best in Show in 2000.
Phil was an active member for several years with the Van Buren Sportsman’s Club, participating in deer hunting and bass fishing. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and assembling puzzles, sometimes framing them to display in his home. He loved his dogs, Bo and Goober, whom he has left behind. Phil loved playing pool and shuffleboard with friends, collecting NASCAR memorabilia, hunting knives, as well as antique cast iron skillets and pots.
Phil was a simple man that enjoyed the basic pleasantries that life had to offer. He had a rich sense of humor, always poked fun, and is well remembered for his sarcastic personality.
Phil is preceded in death by both of his parents. Phil is survived by his son, Will (Autumn) Meachum; daughter, Erin Villa; brother, Rich (Amy) Meachum; stepmother, Dorothy Meachum; uncle, George (Marsha) Rader; cousins: Jimmy and Mike Meachum; several grandchildren; as well as many friends that were considered family to Phil.
There will be a celebration of life from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Big Twin Tavern in Hartford. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements. Those wishing to leave memorial condolences for the family may do so at http://www.calvin-leonardfh.com.
