Peggy Jean Winans

Peggy Jean Winans, 81, of Hartford passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at home.


Peggy was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Ridgley, Tenn., the daughter of Charles and Reba (Pearson) Bunn, both of whom precede her in passing. Also preceding her in passing were her husband, Duane on March 1, 2010; a sister, Deborah Johnson; a brother, Jerry Bunn and granddaughter, Megan Winans.


Peggy grew up in Hartford and went to school there. She met and married the love of her life, Duane Winans and together they raised four plus kids. One of her biggest joy’s were her grandkids and great-grandkids. She took great pride in her family. Peggy worked for Hartford Public Schools at Woodside Elementary and the VBISD in Lawrence. Her other passion was traveling back home to Tennessee to see family or going over to Gatlinburg or to Eureka Springs to see the Passion play. She also took great pride in her yard.


Peggy is survived by six children: Roger Winans of Hartford, Tamara (Dustin) Sirrine of Paw Paw, Charles (Patti) Winans of El Reno, Okla., James Winans, Marty David and Scott Rowe, all of Hartford; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and a brother, James (Michelle) Bunn of Sister Lakes.


The family will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor her memory will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8. Burial will follow the services in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to the West Michigan Cancer Center.
