Milford John Ackerman was born Aug. 16, 1944, in Lawrence. He was born to Milford and Evelyn (Tunis) Ackerman. Milford went to be with his Lord, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016.
John, as he was known, worked at the Watervliet Paper Mill for over 30 years, was a security guard for Whirlpool watching over their hangar at the Benton Harbor Airport, was a member of the Van Buren County Sheriff Posse and retired from Love Joy's of South Haven. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford, loved to fish and most importantly, loved to spend time with his family.
On Oct. 18, 1986, John was united in marriage to Mary Pzychocki, who survives; along with a son, Tomas Ackerman of Watervliet; two daughters, Dee (Buster) Bohn of Hartford and Laura (Steve) Westbrooks of Kalamazoo. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Clint (Maureen) Gordon, Steve (Jessica) Westbrooks, John (Amber) Westbrooks, Devin (Mia Juarez) Irmen, Candice (Joe) Connolly, Gerald L. Paulino and Sean (Brittiany) Paulino; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Ackerman; and many other family members and friends.
John was preceded in passing by his parents; a son, Scott Ackerman; a daughter, Mary Paulino; and a brother, Gary Ackerman.
The family will welcome friends from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. As to John's wishes cremation will follow.
