Maurice Eugene Miller

Maurice "Maurie" Eugene Miller, 85 of Hartford passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Maurie was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Hartford, the son of Anthony and Louise (Warkenten) Miller Jr., both of whom preceded him in death. He trained in the Michigan Naval Reserves and received an honorable discharge from the armed forces in 1953.

Maurie owned and operated the Miller Thermometer Co. in Hartford for 42 years. He was a lifelong Hartford resident and spent winters at his retirement home in Englewood, Fla. His greatest joy was spending time with family and attending the activities of his children and grandchildren.

Maurie married Delores VanDrasek on Nov. 20, 1948, and she survives, along with three daughters: Victoria (Howard) Weatherwax of Sandusky, Ohio; Elaine Miller of Wyoming, Mich.; and Denise (Scott) Smith of Hartford. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Erin (Matthew) Waggoner, Trevor (Sarah) Weatherwax, Amanda (Steve) Veldman and Bethany (Justin) Diesbourg; and five great-grandchildren.
