Mary Jean Utter

Mary Jean Utter, 75, of Lawrence passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, at Cass County Medical Care Facility.

Mary was born March 7, 1947, in Watervliet the daughter of Charles and Jean (Markillie) Sill, both of whom precede her in passing.

Mary graduated from Lawrence High School in 1965. Mary and John Utter were united in marriage on March 1, 1969, and spent the next 44 years together until John’s passing on Jan. 26, 2013. Mary was employed at the Sill Farms for over 50 years, she was a member of various community organizations, such as the Lawrence Ox Roast and Homecoming Committee, Lawrence Lions Club and the Hess-Eastman Unit 174 American Legion Auxiliary.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Janet Utter (Todd LaVanway) of Lawrence; two sisters: Helen Sill of Paw Paw, and Lois (Bob) Ross of Lawrence; a niece, Ashley Ross of Lawrence; a nephew, Ben (Jami) Ross of Lawrence; and numerous other family members and friends.

The family will welcome friends from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, July 16, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor her memory will commence at noon, with Pastor Lonnie Truelove officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mary’s name be made to Hess-Eastman Post 174 Ladies Auxiliary or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
