Mary Louise Becktold, 87, of Spring Lake, Mich., passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Mary Lou was born Aug. 3, 1933, to the late Harry and Grace Surber. She was raised in Redford, Mich., with her late sister, June Stoutenburg. Mary Lou grew up in church and got to know Jesus Christ as her personal lord and savior at a very young age.
Mary Lou’s late husband, Jack Becktold, of 57 years passed away on Nov. 16, 2009. They were the former proprietors of the A&W restaurant in Hartford where they built the business from a small drive-in to a full restaurant with inside service. She leaves behind her two sons: Bryon Becktold of Mattawan, Mich., and Blain (Becky) Becktold of Spring Lake, Mich.; granddaughters: Sarah Remenar (Brad Aldred), and Julie (Kyle) Lackscheide; and seven great-grandchildren: Dominic, Grace, Keagan, Kamryn, Henry, George and Logan.
Mary Lou’s family asks you to join them along with Pastor Marla Thurman in celebrating her life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at New Life Harvest Ministries, 67473 Red Arrow Highway, Hartford. The celebration will continue with a luncheon after the service. Her earthly remains will be placed at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich., at a later date.
