Marian V. Wesaw, 81, of Coloma passed away peacefully in the presence of her family Dec. 10, 2014, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Marian was a proud elder and tribal citizen of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians. She is survived by seven children and one stepdaughter: Janet (John) Thomas, Millburg; Beverly Wesaw, Coloma; Mary (Steve) Winchester, Coldwater; Thomas N. Wesaw Jr, Watervliet; Charles Wesaw, Coloma; Deloris Wesaw, Coloma; Tammi Baier, Milwaukee; and Sharon (Fuzzy) Pratt, Byron Center; 11 grandchildren: Andrea Wesaw, Rhianon Wesaw, Jessica Sample, Melony Williams, Marcus Winchester, Jarred Winchester, Thomas N. Wesaw III, Tanya Baier, Michael Baier, Deb Mahoney and Shelly Martinez; siblings, Irene Wesly, and Henry "Manny" Medawis Jr.; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Nelson Wesaw Sr.; her parents; seven sisters; a baby daughter, Marilyn Wesaw; and a grandson, Wayne Pratt.
Marian worked at DeGroot Inc. in Coloma, where she received numerous employee appreciation plaques over the course of 25 years of dedicated service. She loved to regularly attend pow wows and other tribal functions. She also enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. Marian had a green thumb and loved to tend to her plants. Marian was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and auntie. She loved all of her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. Services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Pine Creek Indian Reservation in Fulton, Mich., followed by burial in Pine Creek Indian Mission Cemetery.
