Macy Joy Burt, 69, of Lawrence Township, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Macy was born June 17, 1947, in Plainwell, the son of Lloyd and Sylvia (Warner) Burt, both of whom preceded him in passing. Also preceding him in passing was a half brother and a half sister.
Macy served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked in salvage repair at General Motors for 31 years. In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman, always looking for that 12-point buck or casting a line for the next big fish. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Macy married Nancy Brausch on June 22, 2000, she survives; along with a daughter, Charlena Burt; and a son, Benjamin Burt, both of Michigan; three grandchildren; two stepdaughters: Amy (Robert) Afdahl of Colorado and Christine (Michael) Petkovich of Arizona; six stepgrandchildren; and many other family members.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with the service honoring his memory taking place at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Lonnie Truelove officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Macy's name be made to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
