Lois Lorraine Blyly

Lois Lorraine Blyly was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Hartford. She passed away suddenly at the age of 81, on July 18, 2014, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.


Lois grew up on the family farm south of Hartford and graduated from Hartford High School in 1950. She was very active in 4-H and won numerous awards at the local and state levels. She went on to college and received her RN degree at Borgess School of Nursing. Lois married Lawrence Blyly on Nov. 28, 1953, and for the next 60 years, they were inseparable. She was a nurse for many years at Doctor Carl Boothby's office, and was the bookkeeper and co-owned Riverview Equipment and Bait in Hartford with her husband Larry for nearly 50 years.


The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on July 23, at the Hartford Federated Church, where the service to honor her memory will be held at 11 a.m. on July 24. Memorial donations in Lois’ name may be made to Van Buren County 4-H Society or the Hartford Public Schools Foundation for Quality Education.


Lois was the daughter of Clarence and Florence (Upham) Patterson, both of whom precede her in passing. She was also preceded by two sisters: Wanda Patterson and Sue Dowd, and two brothers: Dale and Louis Patterson.


Lois is survived by her husband, Lawrence; a son, Steven (Gail) Blyly of Wausaukee, Wisconsin; a daughter, Debra (George) Kulick of Three Rivers, Calif.; four grandchildren: Amy Blyly of Watertown, Wis., Scott (Janelle) Blyly of Niagara, Wis., Maryrose Kulick and John Kulick both of Three Rivers, Calif.


She is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Violet and Valerie Blyly; two brothers: Donald (Marge) Patterson of Monticello, Ind., and Ralph (Darlene) Patterson of Grand Junction, and numerous nieces and nephews.
