Laura Jean Meissner

Laura Jean Meissner, 55, formerly of Hartford, was born Jan. 10, 1959, in Grand Rapids. She was the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Maitner) Hess Jr. Laura passed away suddenly at her home in Kalamazoo on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014.

Laura is survived by a son, Christopher Meissner of Hartford; a daughter, Joy (Edgar) Zepeda of Wyoming, Mich.; three grandchildren; Christmas Snow, her loving companion cat; and her siblings: Anna (Leon) Hudson of Hartford; Paul (Barbara) Hess of Wilmington, N.C.; Robert Hess of Wyoming, Mich.; John (Mavis) Hess of Kentwood, Mich.; Donald (Gladys) Hess of Howard City, Mich.; and Vincent (Victoria) Hess of Lisbon Falls, Maine.

Laura was extremely proud of her sobriety and loved times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

As per Laura's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to honor her memory will commence at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Eau Claire Community Congregational Church, with Pastor David Reed officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
