Juanita Mae Petty, 73, of Hartford was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She left this world suddenly on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.
She was born in Huntingdon, Tenn., on Jan. 19, 1950, to Bonnie and Bertha Bryant. Juanita became a housewife at a young age and raised three children: Harold, Mark, and Bonnie.
Juanita cherished spending time with family and friends and would never let you leave without a hug and a kiss and telling you she loved you. Juanita was a strong-minded woman who loved talking about God and attending church when she could. She truly enjoyed the simple things: a home cooked meal (but you better not forget the dessert), a cookout with family, listening to sappy country songs or southern gospel music or watching a favorite TV show. Her laugh and smile could light up a whole room and you could not help but laugh with her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents: Bonnie and Bertha; her husbands: Harold and Melvin; and brothers: Robert (Carmen), and Eddie. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Underwood and brother, Charles Jr.; children: Harold (Paula) Petty, Mark (Sharlene) Petty, Bonnie (Tom) Snell and stepdaughter, Donna (Bobby) Cantrell; grandchildren: Mark, Jr., Tabitha, Kayla, Justin, Matthew, Nathaniel, Kierstyn, Zachary, Justin, Isaiah, Samantha, and Chad; plus great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 13 S. Haver St., Hartford. A service celebrating Juanita will follow the visitation time at 1 p.m. on Friday. The burial service will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford, with Matthew Snell, Nathaniel Snell, Zachary Snell, Bobby Cantrell, Joshua Bryant, and Mark Petty Jr., serving as pallbearers. Please join the family directly following the funeral and burial for a light meal at the church in the lower level. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
