Juanita Nelson

Juanita Nelson, 87, of Plainwell, Mich., went home to be with our Lord on Feb. 21, 2020, after a brief illness.

Born to Walter and Gladys (Mann) Morgan on May 23, 1932, in Sitka, Ark., Juanita married Clyde W. Nelson on Feb. 4, 1949. He passed away on Feb. 1, 1990. Also preceding her in passing are her parents; and a daughter-in-law, Melba Nelson.

Juanita and her husband lived most of their married life developing Nelson Blueberry Farm in Covert, which they proudly passed on to their children before retiring to Florida. Juanita returned to Plainwell in 2006 to be near family, and to welcome her great-grandchildren.

Juanita is survived by three children, Clovis Nelson of Plainwell, Barry (Carol) Nelson of Hartford and Debra Kalil of Mishawaka, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Normandee Nelson of Bend, Ore.; and a sister, Pauline Masters of St. Charles, Mo.

Juanita was blessed with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Mike Baumgardner (son of Normandee), Chad (Julie) Nelson, parents of Sabrina and Simon, Ka-ryn’ (Scott) Fisher, parents of Makenna, Morghan and Bella, Natalie Bradley, mother of Dominic and Kai, Jesse Hamilton, Jennifer (Keith) Kasper, parents of Zander and Vivian, and Kate (Shane Kilbourne) Nelson.

Juanita spent her golden years playing bingo, trying her best to win the lottery and dreaming about what she would do with the winnings, gardening, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles; but most of all, spending time doting on the loves of her life...her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will welcome friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, at Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor her memory will commence at 2 p.m., with Pastor Kari Fast of Hope Lutheran Church of Plainwell officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford Township.
