John Bernard Vargo was born May 27, 1933, in Hartford, one of nine children, born to Michael and Helen (Kaminsky) Vargo, whom precede him in passing. John passed away suddenly at a friend's home in Lawrence on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the age of 84.
John was a Hartford High School graduate and lived all of his life here in Hartford, except for the time spent in the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving in the army, he spent part of his life farming, a number of years in the packaging industry and finally retiring from the Van Buren County Road Commission.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 10 a.m. Monday April 30, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford. Father German Perez-Diaz will be the Celebrant. John's ashes will be placed in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the church. John is survived by his eight siblings: Joseph (Sharon) Vargo of Benton Harbor, Michael Vargo of Hartford, Bernadine Bouwmeester of Dowagiac, Elizabeth Vargo of St. Joseph, MaryAnn Brown of Portage, Helen (Evan) Hazelett of St. Joseph, Agnes (Victor) Castanier of Saginaw, and Christina Sinclair of Pendelton, S.C.; his special friends: Sally and Richard Norg of Lawrence, who helped him during his sickness and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
