Jimmie Dean Griffin

Jimmie Dean Griffin was born Jan. 10, 1940, in Cardwell, Mo,, the son of Earnest and Iva (Grogan) Griffin.


Jimmie passed away at the age of 80, on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at his home in Lawrence.


Jim, as he was known, graduated from Lawrence High School and then attended Michigan State University for two years in the agricultural program, graduating with honors. He was a heavy equipment operator and welder, and a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He worked for a number of companies, working on area roads, bridges and other construction projects, going where there was work to be done. Jim even went as far as Alaska, working on the pipeline. He was also a farmer and an avid hunter and outdoorsman.


Jim is survived by his three daughters: Katherine (Patrick Charles Shude) Griffin of Redford Township, Kimberly Griffin of South Haven and Koreen Flick of Vicksburg; a sister, Carolene (Don) Phillips of Plant City, Fla., and a sister-in-law, Ruth Griffin of Lawrence.


Jim was preceded in passing by his parents; and five brothers: Bob, Doan, Edgar, Harry and Ray Griffin.


As per Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration of life to honor Jim’s memory will be held at a later date.
