James Watson Lewis

James Watson Lewis, 85, of Benton Harbor passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Orchard Grove Extended Care, Benton Harbor.

James was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Bradley, the son of John and Elizabeth (Pamp) Lewis, both of whom preceded him in passing. Also preceding him in passing were his wife, Mary (Alexis) Lewis; a son, Michael Lewis; and a granddaughter, Hillary DeGraw.

James is survived by 10 children: James D. Lewis of Dowagiac; Richard Lewis of Cheboygan; Dawn (Shane) Rummage of Benton Harbor; Gail Williams of North Judson, Ind.; William Lewis of Dowagiac; Gerry Lewis, Carol Lewis and Dean Lewis, all of Benton Harbor; Dale Lewis of North Judson; and James Lewis of Grand Rapids; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will welcome friends from 7-9 p.m. today, Dec. 5, at Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. A traditional Native American service to honor his memory will commence at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the funeral home, with Kevin Daugherty as celebrant.
