James Arthur Hammond, 64, passed from this life on April 14, 2020, at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy at the end of the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the Coloma F.O.P. and championed multiple charitable causes. Jim had great respect for police and all first respondents, considering it an honor to serve whenever possible.
Jim enjoyed driving his patriotically painted one-ton pickup for community events. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides, bowling and working on cars with his youngest daughter, A.J.
Jim worked in the trucking industry for many years as a driver and one-time owner of a dispatch trucking company. He was most recently employed at Fairfield Inn, Watervliet.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Hammond. Jim is survived by his mother, Barbara Hammond of Hartford; sister, Donna Salverson of Kalamazoo; children, Barbi (Bob) Hoge and James (April) Yeske, both of Coloma; and grandchildren: Corrine (Kevin) Bryant of Sodus and Tyler Hoge, Payton Yeske and Jaylyn Yeske, all of Coloma. He is also survived by special friend, Irene Avina, and children, Tatyana, Kassandra, Ariana and Angelina.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Lakeland Medical Center who took such great care of Jim in his final days.
