James Edward Carmichael, 75, of Dowagiac, formerly of Hartford, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac.
James was born Oct. 18, 1937, in Coulterville, Ill., the son of Roy and Ruth (Hamilton) Carmichael, both of whom preceded him in passing. James was also preceded in passing by a sister, Maxine Frost; and two brothers, Raymond and Earnest Carmichael.
James served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was formerly employed as a truck driver for such companies as Pools and Walmart, was a salesman for Ashley Ford and also worked for Southern Bell Telephone Co.
James is survived by his five children - Marsha, Marla, James Jr., Todd and Joey; his siblings - Elizabeth Slabaugh of Dowagiac, Mary Wagster of Battle Creek, Robert (Emily) Carmichael of Watervliet, Jack (Mary) Carmichael of Battle Creek, Zelda (Bill) Giliberto of Watervliet and Geraldine (Gary) Dillion of Benton Harbor; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will welcome friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor James’ memory will begin at 1 p.m. James will be laid to rest in Keeler Cemetery.
