Henry Rudolph Slonina, 85, of Lawrence, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Bronson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lawton.
Henry was born May 27, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Thomas and Julia (Gnutek) Slonina, both of whom precede him in passing. Also preceding him in passing were three sisters and one brother.
Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old and served his country proudly during WWII. He retired from People’s Gas of Chicago in 1988 and moved to the Lawrence area shortly after. Henry was a member of the American Legion Posts in both Chicago and Lawrence. He was a faithful member and enjoyed attending the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford.
Henry is survived by his wife Patricia, whom he married on October 29, 1949, a daughter; Katherine and Michael of Andover, New Jersey, a son; Richard and Robina of Jacksonville, Florida, two grandchildren; Mark and Katelyn, a great-grandson; Peter and two sisters.
As per Henry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will take place at 11 A.M., Wednesday, October 31 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford with Father Fabio Garzon as the Celebrant. There will also be full military rites being conducted by the Hess-Eastman Post 174 of Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Henry’s name be made to the church.
