Helen Louise Carr

September 24, 1925 — May 30, 2015


Helen was born September 24, 1925 in Paw Paw to Fremont & Florence Wright, the third of five daughters. She married Eugene (Gene) Carr on August 9, 1946. They have two daughters, Patricia (Hank) Seyfarth of Austin, Texas and Bonnie (Randy) Knowlton of Lawrence, two granddaughters Megan (Tim) Stewart of Coloma and Heidi Rader of Kalamazoo, and a grandson Spencer Seyfarth also of Austin, and the Schlamans of Berrien Springs. She was eagerly awaiting the birth of her second great grandchild in November. She is also survived by her sisters Alice Rewalt and Beulah (Paul) Shadley.


She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Naomi Carr and Donna Bowen.


Helen was proud to have been a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church for 77 years, the longest member in church history. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), and the Sunday School. She enjoyed cooking and spent many hours in the church kitchen preparing Mother & Daughter Banquets, Father & Son Banquets, Labor Day chicken dinners, funeral luncheons, and other meals, as needed. She met Gene at the church Youth Fellowship in 1939.


Her first job was at the Upjohn Company in downtown Kalamazoo for seven years. She was floor lady at Lawrence Packing Company/Burnett Farms Packing Company for many years. After her children were grown, she spent 15 years doing daycare in her home. To over 100 children she is "Grandma Helen".


Visitation will be at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford on Tuesday, June 2 from 2 - 4 p.m. and from 6 - 8 p.m., and the funeral will be Wednesday, June 3 at East Arlington Baptist Church in Lawrence at 10 am.
