Harold William Walker, Jr.

December 24, 1934 — June 5, 2017


Harold William Walker Jr., 82, of Hartford, was born on Dec. 24, 1934, in Hartford, the son of Harold and Beatrice (Manley) Walker, both of whom preceded him in passing. He was also preceded in passing by a brother, James. Harold passed away suddenly on Monday, June 5, 2017.


Cocky, as he was known by many, owned and operated the Walker 66 Station from 1958-73. He worked for two years as the bus supervisor and mechanic for the Hartford Public Schools, was in numerous positions for the city of Hartford for 12 years, he had a fire truck repair business for 13 years and was a salesman for Spenser Manufacturing up until his health forced him to retire. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Stoddard Post 93 of Hartford. Harold's love for Hartford led him to become a Hartford fireman, which he did for 40 years, with most of those years as its chief.


Harold married the former Jean Rush on Feb. 7, 1959, and she survives; along with their two children, Harold (Diana) Walker III of Hartford, and Karyn Walker of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren: Brent, Kevin and Erin; a great-grandchild, Jase Michael Walker; two brother's, Manley "Bob" Walker of Hartford, and Richard (June) Walker of South Bend; and a sister, Dawn (Bud) Pitcher of Hartford.


The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at the Hartford United Methodist Church, where a memorial celebration to honor Harold's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017. As to Harold's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Hartford Fire Department or Alzheimer's Association.
