George A. Saetre

George A. Saetre, 89, of Hartford passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.


George was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Andrew and Dagny (Isachsen) Saetre, both of whom preceded him in passing. George was also preceded in passing by his wife of 63 years, Martha (VanLiere), on Nov. 1, 2009, and a sister, Marie Schwenn.


George is survived by his loving family, which consists of his son, Andrew, and his, wife, Karen, of Benton Harbor; one granddaughter, Allison Saetre of Rockford, Mich., and twin great-grandsons, Jake and Corbin. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Nellie Pozivilko and Josephine Perry, both of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews.


George was a faithful employee for more than 33 years at Petrolane LP Gas in Hartford. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Force during World War II, was a past president of the Hartford Lions Club and past zone chairman of the Lions Club district B2. George was also a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Hartford. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his friendly and outgoing nature.


The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 1, at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. A celebration of life service to honor George's memory will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Hope Lutheran Church in Hartford, with Pastor Frederick Adrian officiating. George will be entombed at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, memorials in George's name may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
