Genevieve Irene Conklin

Genevieve Irene (Dade) Conklin, age 97, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Feb. 10, 2020.

Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Hartford, to parents Orlen and Ethel Dade, Genevieve graduated from Hartford High School in 1940. She attended Western State Teachers College where she studied secretarial skills and accounting. She worked for many years in the office of the Watervliet Foundry and later managed the office of Conklin Construction.

In 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard Ralph Conklin, who preceded her in death. Genevieve spent more than 20 years as a volunteer for Community Hospital, Watervliet, was a life member of the Hartford Garden Club, enjoyed volunteering for many charitable organizations, attended Hartford United Methodist Church, and most recently, St. Michael Lutheran Church in Portage.

She is survived by her beloved son, Richard (Carol); precious granddaughter, Katelyn; cousin, Arlene Ward; niece, Lynne (Dan) Farmer; nephew, David Conklin; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was a second mother to many in the community. The family is grateful for the care and friendship provided by Joanne Evans, Denise Hopson, Matt Gross and Kathy Cowgill these past few years. Genevieve’s heartfelt compassion and beautiful way of making every individual feel special was indeed a blessing to so many. She will be remembered for her smile, her love of flowers, devotion to family and her generous spirit.

Please join the family in celebrating her life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Hartford Methodist Church, 425 E. Main St., Hartford. A luncheon will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hartford Methodist Church, St. Michael Lutheran Church of Portage or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
