Gene Andrew Heffington

Gene Andrew Heffington, 84, of Dowagiac passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Lakeland Medical Center, in St, Joseph.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1937, son of the late Cubie and Thelma (Finney) Heffington, in Missouri. He married Betty Fuller and had four children. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1984. Gene loved spending time with family and friends. He cherished his grand and great-grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his children: Gene (Charlotte) Heffington, Deborah (William) Hastings, Judy (Jerry) Reed, and Tony (Kathryn) Heffington; a brother, Thomas (Mary) Heffington; his grandchildren: Amy Smith, David (Gynnifer) Heffington, Adam Smith, Daniel Heffington, Amber Heffington, Staci Heffington, Anthony Heffington, Nathan Heffington, McKynzie Heffington; his great-grandchildren: Kamryn, Audrey, Jedidiah, Steven, Brooklyn, Aubrey, Aidan, Addison, Arizona; and multiple nieces, and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his siblings: Leroy Heffington, Junior (Stella) Heffington, Alvin (Roberta) Heffington, Bobby (Charlene) Heffington, Gary ‘Buddy’ (Jackie) Heffington, Donnie (Sally) Heffington, Katherine Rogers, Lois Doberstein, and Joyce Heffington.

The family will welcome friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Full Gospel Christian Tabernacle, Watervliet, where the service to honor his memory will commence at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tom Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
