Gary Eugene Huffman

Gary Eugene Huffman, 68, of Hartford passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

A celebration of life service to honor Gary's memory will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Hartford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Williams officiating. Gary will be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial may do so to the family. Gary was born Oct. 6, 1945, in Porterville, Calif., the son of Emery and Jeanette (Durbin) Huffman. He was formerly employed at Mann Metal of Hartford and retired from Amhawk, also of Hartford, after 15 years of employment. He was often seen using his metal detector, walking the halls of Woodside Apartments, standing around talking, which he loved to do, and giving a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Gary married the former Susan Kolhoff on Nov. 10, 1973. She survives, along with a daughter, Christina DeGroat of Muskegon; son, Scott Huffman of South Haven; a granddaughter, Grace DeGroat of Muskegon; three sisters: Margaret Huffman of Bangor, Judy (Dan) Coulson of Coopersville and Catherine (Roger) Simmons of Kentucky; two brothers, Paul Huffman and Robert (Betty) Huffman, both of Bangor; and many other family members and friends.

Gary was preceded in passing by a son, Matthew Huffman; his parents; two brothers, James Huffman and Richard Huffman; and two sisters, Betty Luttrel and Mary Ann Goldsmith.
