Essel Ray Stewart, 61, of Hartford passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Essel was born April 6, 1953, in Henderson, Ky., the son of Robert and Celesta (Vincent) Stewart. He was formerly employed as a foreman with Anthony Farms in Keeler for 25 years, and he owned and operated The Garage in Keeler for 17 years. Essel enjoyed working on classic cars, riding his motorcycle, camping and traveling. Most important to him was the time spent with his family.
On Aug.15, 1978, he married the former Sandra Reeves, and she survives, along with three daughters: Sandy (Geoff) Jacobs of St. Joseph, April (Jamie) Wolfe of Mears and Lisa (Jeff) Halliburton of Hartford; a son, Thomas (Casie) Stewart; seven grandchildren: Krysti, Casey, Tyler, Brenden, Alex, Cameron and Aiden; and a brother, Walter Cook of Las Vegas.
Essel was preceded in passing by his parents; a brother, David Stewart; and two sisters, Brenda Bonee and Janice Herrington.
The family will welcome friends from 5-6 p.m. today, April 9, at Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where a service to honor his memory will commence at 6 p.m. Allyn Anthony will officiate.
