Elmer John "Rusty" DeFord, 76 of Hartford, passed away Wed., Feb. 3, 2016 at home.
Elmer was born Nov. 29, 1939 in Tomah, Wis., the son of William, Sr. and Pearl (Burns) DeFord, both of whom precede him passing. Also preceding him in passing were a daughter, Tammy Lyn DeFord and a brother: William "Bill" DeFord.
Elmer was loyally employed at the Watervliet Paper Mill and Lane Automotive for 29 years, before starting his own business, DeFord's Carpet Cleaning Service in Hartford. In his spare time, he loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, as well as woodworking. But most importantly, he loved the times he spent with his family.
Elmer married the former Shirley Sarters on December 9, 1961. She survives, along with four children: Regina Wetzel and Kevin (Sandra) DeFord, both of Hartford, Tona (Bill) Schuldt of Janesville, Wis. and Tina DeFord of Midland, Tex. He is also survived by two special grandchildren: Andrea Wetzel and Tammy DeFord, eleven other grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, three brothers, five sisters and many other family members and friends.
As per Elmer's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to honor his memory will commence at 3 P.M.; Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Van Buren Sportsman's Club, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elmer's name may be made to Hospice at Home. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
