Elmer Arthur Deckert

Elmer Arthur Deckert, 88, of Hartford passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his home.


Elmer was born March 3, 1924, in Milan, the son of Louis and Elvina (Kotke) Deckert, both of whom preceded him in passing. Elmer was also preceded in passing by his wife, Pauline, on July 24, 2009; a daughter, Susan Marie Deckert; four brothers, August Deckert, Waldo Deckert, Merl Deckert and Earl Deckert; and four sisters, Lydia Herman, Ruth Kruger, Freda Kruger and Delores Deckert.


Elmer is survived by his loving family, which consists of his two sons, Ronald Deckert of Marion, Ky., and David Deckert of Hartford; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald (Ann) Deckert of Saint Joseph.


Elmer served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Stoddard Post 93 of Hartford, was a faithful member of the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartford, was a Sunday school teacher and served the church in many capacities. Elmer retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1988.


As to Elmer's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to honor his memory will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elmer's name may be made to the church's benevolence fund. The family has entrusted arrangements to the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford.
