Ellen Pearl Tyler, 84 of Hartford passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Hanson Hospice Center.
Ellen was born April 3, 1932, in Mattawan, the daughter of Jake and Larue (DeYoung) Burkett.
On Oct. 6, 1950, Ellen was united in marriage to Kenneth Tyler. Kenneth passed away on July 27, 2008. Also preceding her in passing were a son, David: a daughter, Cherly; her beloved dog, Sammi and six brothers and sisters: Irvin, Nellie, Jenny, Florence, Roy and Margaret.
She is survived by seven children: Betty Gilburt, May Tyler, Richard Ishmael, Ken (Shirley) Able, Edward Able, Thomas Tyler and Tina (David) Smith. She is also survived by six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Ellen was loyally employed at Burnett Foods of Lawrence. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. But most importantly, she just lived life to the fullest.
As per Ellen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to honor her memory will commence at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. Pastor Mike Heflin of the First Church of God in Decatur will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ellen's name may be made to the family.
