Donna Lucille Avery

Donna Lucille Avery was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Lawrence. She was one of six children born to William and Ella (Eagan) Garrod. Donna peacefully went to be with her Lord, at home and with her family by her side, on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016.

Donna retired from Lawrence High School after 30 years of employment. She was a faithful member of the Hartford Federated Church for over 50 years. She loved her family dearly and will be truly missed.

The family will welcome friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at the Hartford Federated Church, followed by a celebration of life service to honor Donna's memory. The Rev. Larry Avery will officiate. As to her wishes, cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. On July 19, 1946, Donna was united in marriage to Gene Avery, who survives; along with their son, Larry (Carol) Avery of Anderson, Ind.; and their daughter, Maxine (Gary) Carlson of Hartford. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Donna was preceded in passing by her parents, four sisters and a brother.
