Donald Dale Summerhill, 54, of Portage, Mich., passed away suddenly Saturday, May 17, 2014, at his home.


A celebration of life service to honor Donald's memory will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. The family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the funeral home. Donald will be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich., with full military rites. Donald was born July 5, 1959, in Watervliet, the son of Walter and Vernon (Goldsmith) Summerhill. He was a graduate of Bangor High School, received double master's degrees and retired from the U.S. Navy after serving his country proudly for 11 years. He loved the company of his loving pet, Bruno.


Donald is survived by a daughter, Brittany Summerhill (Ryan Wilson) of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Donald (Kristen) Summerhill II of Silverdale, Wash.; his children's mother, Jennifer Summerhill of Palatine, Ill.; three brothers: Terry (Linda) Summerhill of Hartford, Randy (Lois) Summerhill of Kalamazoo and Donald's twin, Ronald Summerhill of Phoenix; two sisters, Linda (Jim) Parkhurst of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Annetta (Rick) Huffman of Pullman; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.


Donald was preceded in passing by his parents; two sisters, Marsha Summerhill and Patricia Summerhill; and a brother, Bobbie Summerhill.
