Donald Richard Strefling

Donald Richard Strefling passed away on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at his home in Lawrence at the age of 80.

Donald was born on Nov. 27, 1936, in Galien, the son of William and Lena (Geik) Strefling. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he joined the Hess Eastman Post 174, and was a lifetime member of the Van Buren Sportsman's Club in Hartford.

Donald married Barbara Jean Ewert on Nov. 1, 1959, and she survives along with their son, Michael Strefling of Lawrence; and two daughters, Lori (Tom) Hass of Missouri and Lisa Lowe of Mattawan. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Meg Lowe, Michael Lowe, Molly Lowe and Maggie Lowe; a sister, Jane (Ronald) Buckhout of Lawrence; and three brothers: Rudy (Barbara) Strefling of Mineola, Texas, Steve (Patti) Strefling and Leonard (Teri) Strefling both of Lawrence.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irma Tursi; and two brothers, William Strefling Jr. and Harold Strefling.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at the Lawrence United Methodist Church, where a service to honor Donald's memory will commence at noon. Donald will be laid to rest in Hill Cemetery, Lawrence Township, with military rites by the Hess Eastman Post 174. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Lawrence United Methodist Church or to Barbara Strefling for donations to the Van Buren Sportsman's Club Fishing Rodeo.
