Debra Marie Smith, 52, of Coloma passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo after being taken off life support.
Debra was born Dec. 8, 1962, in Watervliet to John and Betty (Vaughn) Smith. She grew up in Coloma, went by "Crunch" and loved going to the "fun factory" in her younger days. She ventured out to California with her best friend, Kathryn (Richardson) LaClare of Reno, Nev. She had her daughters out there, then moved back to Michigan to be with her family. She loved hanging with family, friends and especially her daughters.
She is survived by her daughters, Chelsea Smith of Keeler and Kaitlyn Smith of Coloma; her mother, Betty Joe Smith of Coloma; sisters: Joann Gingrich, Shirley Buckley and Nancy (Caroll) Bailey, all of Coloma, and Lisa (Joe) Sikes of Lawrence; a brother, Dana Smith of South Bend; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Smith; sisters, Lou Anne Holcomb and Brenda Smith; nieces, Storie Smith and Ashley Buckley; and a nephew, Danny Vaughn. Another sister, Sandra Wilcoxson, died Feb. 10.
There will be a combined memorial for Debra and Sandra at Keeler General Baptist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, with visitation at 11:30 a.m. and the service at 12:30 p.m., followed by a luncheon.
