David Joseph Cruz, Sr.

David Joseph Cruz Sr. was born June 14, 1948, in Columbia City, Ind., the son of Ismael and Martina (Bueno) Cruz.

David passed away suddenly at the age of 72 on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, at his home in Lawrence.

David was a truck driver by trade and drove for the Heinz Corporation. He liked to go fishing with his wife Juana, but most importantly was spending time with his loving family, which consists of his nine children: David Jr. (Irma) Cruz of Watervliet, Alicia (David) Reyes of Bangor, Cris (Belen) Cruz of Lawrence, Angel Cruz of Texas, Linda (Rick) Cruz-Merritt of Lawrence, Juan (Jasmine) Cruz of Lawrence, Santos (Jami) Cruz of Hartford, Blanca (Federico) Frausto of New York and Rocky (Cassandra) Cruz of Hartford; his thirty one grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. David is also survived by his mother, Martina Cruz; four brothers: Ismael Cruz, Victor Cruz, Jose Cruz and Tomas Cruz and three sisters: Wendy Garza, Ramona Trevino and Virginia Trevino.

David was preceded in passing by his wife, Juana, on Nov. 23, 2019; two children: Cristobal and Francisco; his father, Ismael; a sister, Antonia Cruz and a brother, Eulogio Cruz.

Due to restrictions in place, a graveside celebration of life service to honor David’s memory will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in Hill Cemetery, Lawrence Township, Mich. Pastor Rocky Medrano will officiate. The Calvin Funeral Home of Hartford is assisting the family with arrangements.
