Daniel L. Asaro

August 11, 1950 — February 9, 2016

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, Daniel L. Asaro, 65, of Hartford, was in the loving arms of his wife when he peacefully entered heaven to join his Lord and savior, after a long struggle with cancer. Dan was born on Aug. 11, 1950, in Detroit. After growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, he risked his life from 1968-71 in the Vietnam War, as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne.

Dan married the love of his life, Sharon Woodall Asaro on March 11, 1978. They traveled to many places together, side by side. On most occasions, when you saw one, you would see the other. Friends would say they were the perfect example of a good marriage.

Dan provided for his family by working construction, which led him to continue his education and become a master electrician. This allowed him to work over 30 years in the electrical industry as a dedicated, valued, and hardworking employee. He retired in June of 2015 from Edgewater Automation of St. Joseph.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. His motorcycle helped him and his wife to spread the gospel to others over several years. Dan was also a member at The Chapel Evangelical Free Church in St. Joseph. His church family could always depend on his helping hand. Dan's purpose in life was to glorify the Lord and he took every opportunity to serve.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Florence (Robinson) Asaro. He is cherished and survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon Woodall Asaro; two daughters, Wendy (Brett) Kincaid of Rossville, Ind., and Ami (Doug) Wells of Berrien Center; four grandchildren: Hayden and Mallory Kincaid, Chloe and Alayna Wells; a sister, Gina (Jim) Ninow of Palmdale, Calif.; and a brother, Michael (Pat) Asaro of Camden, S.C.

A celebration of Dan's life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14 at The Chapel Evangelical Free Church in St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. with funeral at 4 p.m. Dinner reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation, 1717 K St. NW, Suite 900, Washington, D.C. 20006 or to the Calvin Funeral Home, 8 East Main St., Hartford, MI 49057, supporting the funeral.
