Cheryl Christine Gulliver

July 6, 1947 — March 17, 2014


Cheryl Christine Gulliver, 66 of Silvercreek Township, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at her home.


Chris, as she was known by most, was born July 6, 1947 in Watervliet, the daughter of Henry and Loretta (Szewczyk) Poker, both of whom precede her in passing.


Chris was a 1965 graduate of Hartford High School, where she was a cheerleader and first runner-up to Miss Hartford. Her love of bowling was seen throughout her life, as she and her husband, Rocky, co-own and operate Lakes Bowl in Sister Lakes, where she was the bookkeeper and secretary of the Monday Night "Hit and Miss" Bowling League for 30 years. She loved playing golf and coaching softball, where she coached a number of teams for nearly 30 years.


Chris is survived by her husband — Roscoe "Rocky"; two sons — Danny (Robin) Gulliver and David Gulliver, both of Dowagiac; a daughter — Victoria Grote of Dowagiac; five grandchildren - Erica Gulliver, Amelia Grote, Gwen Gulliver, Erich Grote and Paige Taylor all of Dowagiac; one great grandchild - Rachel Prak of Dowagiac; an adopted son - Doug (Judy) Briney of Cassopolis and many other family members and friends.


The family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M.; Thursday, March 20 at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where a rosary will be celebrated at 8 P.M. The Mass of Christian service to celebrate her life will be celebrated at 11 A.M.; Friday, March 21 at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Sister Lakes, with Father Kevin Covert as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, Sister Lakes. Memorial donations in Chris' name may be made to Hospice at Home, Saint Joseph.
