Celeste Charlene Phillips

November 6, 1945 — February 16, 2013

Celeste Charlene Phillips, 67, of Hartford passed away suddenly Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in Hartford Township as the result of an automobile accident.

Celeste was born Nov. 6, 1945, in Lawrence, the daughter of George and Esther (Dobson) Heffner, both of whom precede her in passing. Also preceding her in passing was her husband, Jack Eugene Phillips, on Aug. 21, 2010, and a sister, Georgine Heffner.

Celeste loved farming. Farming was in her blood. When she wasn't farming, she was on the go traveling, playing golf and other outings. She was deeply devoted to the Lord, as was seen in her enjoyment by her Thursday Night Bible Study she hosted, singing and praising God. She was a loyal member of the Keeler General Baptist Church, where she was the church's piano player, a song leader and treasurer. She was very charismatic, who was quick to become friends with everyone she came in contact with. She was a very giving person.

Her most important love was the time she spent with her family, which includes a son, Mike (Shannon) Phillips of Hartford; a daughter, Suzy (David) Buss of Decatur; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Phillips, Joshua Phillips, Cayla Buss and Matthew Buss. Also surviving are a brother, George (Cindi) Heffner of Mattawan; three sisters, Rebecca Heffner of Hartford, Pamela Heffner of Coloma and Diane (Marvin) Thomason of Buckeye, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her church family.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Keeler General Baptist Church, with a service to honor her memory starting at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Keeler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations in Celeste's name be made to the Keeler General Baptist Church. The family has entrusted the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, with arrangements.
