Carl Russell Staffen

Carl Russell Staffen, 75, of Bangor passed away Oct. 28, 2014, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo.

Carl was born Oct. 25, 1939, in Big Rapids. He was the son of James and Adeline (Kranz) Staffen, both of whom preceded him in passing. He was also preceded by his wife, Nancy; and a sister, Leona Eckert.

After graduating from high school, he went on to earn his teaching certificate and taught at the Van Buren County Skill Center. He was a self-employed construction worker and loved farming on his own farm.

Family and friends will gather from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford. Following the gathering, there will be a memorial graveside service at Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan (Rose Arbor). Carl is survived by his children: Greg (Sharon) Staffen and Karen (Jim) Sanborn, both of Lawrence; Donna (Joe) Hillman of Bangor; Terry (Winifred) Staffen of Lawrence; SueAnn (Randy) Selby of Allegan; and Eric "Rick" (Susan) Staffen of Lawrence; grandchildren: Jason, Justion and Joshua Staffen; Joseph and Matthew Hillman; Cassandra and Wade Staffen; Andrew and Alanna Sanborn-Whiteman; and Phillip Staffen; great grandsons: Jonathan and Michael Hillman, and Cade Staffen; and a brother, John Staffen of Altona, Mich.
