Billy Don Tate, 73, of Covert Township was born Nov. 4, 1942, to Don and Jewel (Davis) Tate. He passed away suddenly Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at his home.
Billy married the former Shirley Carter on April 29, 1961. In December 1961 Billy entered the United States Air Force and served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his duty to his country, Billy worked at the Watervliet Paper Mill and then decided that wasn't to his liking and bought the farm in Covert Township that he loved up until his untimely death. Billy was a lifetime member and a 32nd-degree Mason.
His wife, Shirley, passed away January 31, 2012. Also preceding him were two daughters, Deborah Hemenway and Cynthia Tate; his parents, Don and Jewel; a sister; and two brothers.
Billy is survived by a granddaughter, Mallory (Jay) Hurley of Bangor; a grandson, Joseph Maeder of Coloma; and two great-granddaughters, Chloe Maeder and Alizabeth Hurley.
As to Billy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Keeler General Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Billy's and Shirley's ashes will be placed together in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford, with a private family gathering in the spring.
